Leveraging Her Gift

Meagen Burrows, an attorney at GableGotwals, wears many United Way hats: field volunteer, Leadership Giver, member of the Women’s Leadership Council, and chair of her firm’s United Way campaign.
Last year, she was able to double her United Way contribution by participating in the Leadership Giving Challenge and joining the Women’s Leadership Council.
“It’s easy to get swept away in the hustle and bustle of our own lives, but I have heard the stories of people who are benefiting from the United Way,” she says. “They are incredible people who are having a rough go of it. Sometimes I feel like I am too busy or too stressed to give one more ounce of energy away, but then I remember that my small efforts, combined with the efforts of thousands of others, can make a big difference in people’s lives.”
Since joining the Women’s Leadership Council (WLC), she discovered how volunteer work can complement career development.
“The WLC is a great opportunity to connect with like-minded women and share ideas that will grow Tulsa,” she says. “It was amazing to see the sheer number of women at our recent WLC Summit who are active in supporting their community through the United Way. WLC provides an opportunity to tap into the best and brightest minds in Tulsa. Interacting with these women has been truly inspiring.”
