Giving Resources and Time
Crystal CouturierLeadership Giver
Crystal knew she wanted to give back to her community, but with many demands on her time, she knew she couldn’t devote much to volunteering.
“I would like to volunteer, but I don’t have the time, so I can give financially.” Crystal is a Tulsa Area United Way Leadership Giver.
Her first introduction to need in her community was when she visited a shelter and met the homeless children. “I have a son and all I could think was what if he didn’t have anywhere to go?” she remembers.
When she moved to Tulsa, she saw the need here and wanted to help. Crystal works at UPS and leads her workplace campaign. She coordinated a visit to Youth Services of Tulsa, a TAUW partner agency, with her co-workers. “To know that we have these places is eye-opening – that could happen to any one of us.”
When asked the most important reason for becoming a Leadership Giver, Crystal responded, “These organizations exist because of the United Way and they are there if we need them. People need these services and the money is going to something good.”
